On Wednesday 30th March 2011 Pakistan and India were up against each other in the semi-final of the cricket worldcup 2011 ODI tournament in Mohali,Chandrigarh, India in the state of Indian Punjab just across the border of Pakistan.Punjab of India is very different from the Punjab of Pakistan both historically and politically. The British during the raj considered the Punjab as "the sword arm" of India which is probably why the congress party of India which succeeded the British rule did not want it as it is....The Punjab was first cut at the partition of India in 1947 and later in 1966 the indian punjab was further sub-partitioned into three states Punjab ,haryana and himachal pardesh. In june 1984 the then Indian prime minister indra gandhi of congress party ordered the Indian Army to conduct "operation Blue Star" at the most sacred religious place on earth for sikhs "the Golden Temple " in Amritsar.Since then the people of the Indian state of Punjab has firmly believed in Democracy and have tried their best not to get involved in the diplomacy. But what can one do when you have family, friends and well-wishers all over the world. The international media continuously tries to distinguish and differentiate between the poor people with rich culture of indian state of Punjab and the rest of the democracy.Recently I have observed that the hindi soaps and movies shown by satellite channels use ethnic terms such as "behan jee type","miss Hoshiyarpur" to create an image of a totally rural village punjabi girl very different in fashion and not willing to follow the modern trends....yet eager to the limits of desperation to prove herself to the world.

Democracy vs Diplomacy

And the musical cheers begins.......
For most people like myself who are not familiar much with the US elections and just watch it from far mostly through the very biased Bi-partisan media and the sponsored advertisements and debates....what appears to me is that in order to win the US election you have to prove to the electorates and the world that your opponent is not worth a nickle which in this case is usually a person of the highest integrity being a Governor of a state or the Senator of a very long standing.I don't know how an ordinary American voter feels about all this mudslinging and character assassination of the people of impeccable character just to run them over or out....of the race first within the party and then in the presidential election all I know is that even a ferrari has to come to the pit-stop once in a while and the car wash is a must for the very best just to keep it shinny and new...
In the last US Presidential elections we saw two fundamental innovations...the democrates had a black senator running for President and the republicans (gop) had Sarah Palin the alaska governor being ridiculed and pilorized by the media as the vice presidential candidate hand picked out of the blue (ice) to counter the presumed threat of senator Clinton who at that time was pretty confident of her winning the nomination.
Gov sarah palin somehow caused panic in the race and instead of helping in breaking the so called "Glass Ceiling" raised the bar for all town folks....
Obviously it was not a very calculated move or maybe it was if the Gop did not want the Whitehouse during a hard hitting recession.
Now it seems that there is absolutely no way America is going to re-elect Obama for the second term that almost became mandatory for US Presidents since President Reagan.
So before the race begins who would be the sponsors favorite because after all it was all about the dough in the end in the democratic camp which lead to an unbelievable defeat for Senator Clinton...She has already opted out for the next election after being so active as the secretary of state in the obama administration saying that she wants to retire.
So now its upto the republican party to field the right candidate and grab the spoils.
Republican rep from Minnesota Michele Bachmann seems quite interested to run for office at this point she is very little known to me but I do hope that she decides to run soon...

Japan:when will it all end...:((
This man in his own country prayed we know not to what powers.
We pray them to reward him for his bravery in ours.

Pakistanis Safe....
It is the most heard and relieving phrase in the local international news these days...yet its not a cliche' it is a fact.
Unlike the British foreign office or the US State department (dipnote),the ministry of foreign affairs Pakistan does not specifically issues travel advisories very regularly ....but when something bad happens anywhere in a foreign land like for instance in the recent days and weeks ....the anti-govt protests in the middle east ,Egypt, libya,Bahrain and others....we heard "Pakistani's are safe" Some returning Pakistani's were shown on Pakistani airports which further establishes their claim that Pakistani's are safe.
Now after this unprecedented tragedy that befalleth upon Japan on friday....earthquake ,aftershocks ,Tsunami and the Nuclear Plant disaster....again we hear the same thing ...."Pakistani's are safe."
